Becoming a candidate is a process, here are some examples of the skills of a good candidate:
- Communication: communicate effectively on all channels to reach the most people, learn to tell your story, what is important to you and what is your vision.
- Leadership and Networking: inspire and motivate people to join the cause, make decisions under pressure, and work collaboratively to get across the finish line.
- Strategic Thinking: develop a plan to achieve campaign objectives. Analyze problems and develop effective solutions to jump hurdles that come along the way.
- Policy Acumen: understand what is the role of government under the law and what is the impact of government policies on people and businesses, and civil society.
- Fundraising: those who support your campaign will come out and vote for you. So fundraising is a crucial part of running for any office.
And… Resilience: Running for office can be a grueling and challenging process, and a political candidate must be resilient enough to overcome setbacks and persevere in the face of adversity. Resilience is a muscle that can be built up.
No one is born with these skills, that’s why we created this program to identify, develop and train prospective candidates.
To be successful we need your participation:
- Become a Prospect: interested in running for office one day? Take the first step and join our program, you will prepare at your own pace.
- Become a Scout: help us identify people who should consider running at some point.
- Become a Coach: put your vast experience in politics to work and coach people who are training to become candidates.
